January 2025 Chapter Meeting
How to Incorporate Empowering Language into Grant Writing
Thursday, January 23rd, 11:30 – 1:00 p.m.
VIRTUAL ONLY
Using empowering language to describe our clients can be just as effective in securing funding as using deficit-based language—and it leads to better outcomes for nonprofits. There’s no reason to portray clients as helpless or solely in need. But how do you write in a way that uplifts and respects those you serve? This virtual workshop will guide you through actionable steps to achieve that.
What You’ll Learn:
• Self-Identification: Discover how to use language that reflects the terms participants prefer when speaking about themselves, fostering respect and dignity.
• People-First Language: Learn techniques to ensure that personhood is the central, defining characteristic in your writing.
• Active Voice: Make your clients the heroes of their own stories while positioning your organization as a supportive partner.
Workshop Highlights: This hands-on workshop includes writing exercises focused on these three empowering language principles, providing practical experience in creating impactful, respectful grant proposals. Join our guest speaker, Allison Jones, CEO and Founder of Spark the Fire Classes, to master language that honors clients and attracts funding.
Cost:
$15 Non-members Free for GPA members
